Registrar’s Postcard: Barcelona, Spain

Barcelona is a city that wears art like a cloak and crown. Here, art and museums are under your feet and everywhere you look.

National Museum of Catalonian Art, Barcelona

National Museum of Catalonian Art, Barcelona

At the National Museum of Catalonian Art, on the peak of Montjuic, visitors don’t leave at closing time, but sit on its steps to watch the sun set over the city. In front is a spectacle of water-falls and fountains illuminated with moving colored lights, performing to music.  The scene draws huge crowds who sing, clap and dance to the fountain’s soundtrack.

When you reach the bottom of Montjuic, you look up to see everything in line with the museum – the crowds, columns, fountains, waterfalls – all lead to its entrance. At the top, the museum has a nightly crown of flood-lights to complete the effect. Art reigns over Barcelona.
